Goodbyehome in the Studio: Episode XI - The Final...
That’s right, tracking is complete! Well, for me, anyway… Now, only a smattering of cosmetic tracking overdubs remain. Bass tracking will be touched up today, and some vocal re-tracking for “Bicycles” will be complete soon. And then the mixing and mastering process begins.
I continued the tracking with some minor guitar work for “Chemicals & Compromise”...

Goodbyehome in the Studio: Episode X
Goodbyehome is nearly finished with the tracking for our first Full-Length Studio album, to be titled “The Troubles”.
I went in yesterday to complete work on a few other songs. It was time for a bit of accordion goodness. First up was a tasty track on “Apache Hotel”, which will likely be our first Million-Dollar hit. Very radio-friendly waltz number. Good times.
After...
Goodbyehome in the Studio: Episode IX
Nearing the finish line…
Today saw the finishing touches on three songs for me, including one song that may very well be completely finished with tracking work. It feels good to have completed something - 14 tracks really doesn’t seem very daunting until you realize that you’re already three and a half weeks in, and there are still 8 songs that are left to work on.
But things...
Goodbyehome in the Studio: Episode VIII
More rock to be made, and this time, we brought in backup…
Greg was joined in the studio by Ms. Donna Frost of Nashville to sing backup vocals on our hauntingly beautiful duet ballad, ‘Why I Never Run’. It’s always a pleasure to be able to share the stage with her, so it was only fitting that she join us in our recording endeavor. You can find Donna on tour in Chicago...
Goodbyehome in the Studio: Episode VII
It’s guitar time. Possibly my favorite time. Even better than Peanut Butter Jelly Time. Yesterday saw the construction, and deconstruction, and re-construction of the epic blues guitar solo for “Stepchild”. I even chose to forego my trademark neck pickup for a meatier double humbucker setting. I might have to do this more often.
Reminiscent of late 60s - early 70s Mick...
Goodbyehome in the Studio: Episode VI
It’s Greg day today!
We started off with a lively discussion of where we were in the project, and how to get where we need to be with the most efficiency. We’re in no great hurry, but likewise, we’re not interested in wasting time.
So we began working on Greg’s principal vocal tracks. “County Line Road” is well on it’s way.
And then there was...
Goodbyehome in the Studio: Episode V
Yep. Still recording.
More and more is getting done, though now that the major work is done, the minor work is increasing - and has been taking more time than anticipated. But all in the greater good. This album is sounding fantastic by the track. And there are a lot of them. Christine has turned into an entire string section for a number of songs. Brilliant work!
She completed a number...

Goodbyehome in the Studio: Episode IV
Song one is nearly complete! It’s a beauty… Several more are well on their way. Greg came by to lay down three solid vocal tracks, and Christine and I stopped by to add our vocals, her violin, and my guitar leads. Here is Christine, flashing her million dollar smile, in preparation to lay down the backing vocals for the million dollar song. Pretty coincidental…
We started...
Goodbyehome in the Studio: Episode III
The machine lurches ever forward! After a very productive day of recording, we slowed down a touch on Monday evening. The boys gathered to begin the acoustic-based tracks for the album. Ironically, some of our older material has been more difficult to nail down than the newer tracks. But our rhythm section has been hard at work to lay down the foundation for a tasty tasty album for the...
Goodbyehome in the Studio: Episode II
Ellis Clark is rapidly climbing the list of my favorite people in the world. He has graciously offered his studio space and time to produce our record. We like him. He has managed to bring out some great tracks from us thus far.
Day 1 of Goodbyehome’s Studio Extravaganza has come and gone. All in all, it was a very productive day. The bass and drum tracks for seven songs have...
Goodbyehome in the Studio: Episode I
That’s right, your friends and mine in Goodbyehome are going to be in the studio beginning in T-Minus two hours!
The journey may be long. The hours may be grueling. There may be casualties. But on the other side of the path is our very first full-length album.
We can hardly wait!
Feel free to join us on our journey. I will be updating on our progress regularly.
May the Force be with...

Goodbyehome - Martyr's: June 16, 2009
Goodbyehome’s triumphant return to Martyr’s went off swimmingly. Literally.
Seriously, Chicago. What’s the deal with all the rain?
The night started off a bit damp, but the music was hot all night, starting with Super Secret Surprise Guests “Hurtin’ Kind”. The Chicago Acoustic Underground portion of the evening was kicked off by Boston Singer-Songwriter...
The End. (that's what she said...)
Four shows. Five days. Hotel rooms. Hot tubs. Avocados. Metal bars. Highway turnarounds. Marshmellows. Plumbing malfunctions. Respect. Jasons everywhere! Missing cameras. #1 fans. Shuuuut Uuuuup!
Madison was a bittersweet end to the Goodbyehome June 2009 Tour. We arrived, after a few battles with misplaced highway signage and a slight detour after being forced into a construction zone...
St. Paul and etc.
Goodbyehome here - the tour is winding down. We spent a well needed day off on Sunday wandering about the Twin Cities. After a late start, the Goodbyehomemobile headed down to Grand Old Day over in St. Paul, MN.
This proved more difficult than we had anticipated. Apparently, I-94 was closed, and nobody really bothered to tell the people on the highway, so we made a few detours, and arrived,...
Goodbyehome: Let's Start a Riot!
Goodbyehome is in Minneapolis! A very eventful night, indeed. After a long day of driving in intermittent rain across Wisconsin, we arrived in Minneapolis. A few of us explored the hotel hot tub, and the rest of us prepared for the show at the Terminal Bar.
The show had its share of technical mishaps. Note to self: always bring batteries. Lots of batteries. All three guitars and the bass...
Goodbyehome Tour June 2009
Greetings from the road! We’re slowly but surely waking up (some a bit slower than others) in Milwaukee after a successful night at the Points East Pub. The show went well - we made some new friends and new fans, sold some CD’s and shirts, and now we’re ready to do it all again tonight.
Special thanks to Jason, the sound engineer and the rest of the staff at the Points East.
